<div data-ogsc="black">The initiative also aims to encourage the adoption of internationally recognised standards, strengthen innovation and improve market access for businesses across the region. The announcement was made during the 28<sup data-ogsc="">th</sup>&nbsp;Meeting of the East African Standards Committee (EASC) held in Arusha, Tanzania.</div>

<div data-ogsc="black">Speaking during the event,&nbsp;<span class="marknpxe3292m" data-markjs="true" data-ogac="" data-ogab="" data-ogsc="" data-ogsb="">EAC</span>&nbsp;Director of Customs and Acting Director of Trade, Ms. Flavia Busingye, called on enterprises across all&nbsp;<span class="marknpxe3292m" data-markjs="true" data-ogac="" data-ogab="" data-ogsc="" data-ogsb="">EAC</span>&nbsp;Partner States, particularly Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), to participate in the 2026&nbsp;<span class="markzor6ktbme" data-markjs="true" data-ogac="" data-ogab="" data-ogsc="" data-ogsb="">Awards</span>&nbsp;cycle and showcase their commitment to&nbsp;<span class="mark9uxm8ockt" data-markjs="true" data-ogac="" data-ogab="" data-ogsc="" data-ogsb="">quality</span>&nbsp;and excellence.</div>

We trust that the next phases will be more inclusive, especially for SMEs, women-led enterprises and emerging businesses, so that no one is left behind,&rdquo; she said.</div>

<div data-ogsc="black">She further challenged implementing institutions and stakeholders to establish a monitoring and mentorship mechanism to support Award winners beyond recognition and help them grow into stronger&nbsp;<span class="markbdjmam9hu" data-markjs="true" data-ogac="" data-ogab="" data-ogsc="" data-ogsb="">regional</span>&nbsp;and international brands.</div>

<div data-ogsc="black">Ms. Busingye further lauded the Republic of Kenya for successfully hosting the 2025&nbsp;<span class="markzor6ktbme" data-markjs="true" data-ogac="" data-ogab="" data-ogsc="" data-ogsb="">Awards</span>&nbsp;cycle in Nairobi, which attracted participation from 252 organisations and drew an audience of more than 3,000 people, with 25 organisations receiving recognition at the&nbsp;<span class="markbdjmam9hu" data-markjs="true" data-ogac="" data-ogab="" data-ogsc="" data-ogsb="">regional</span>&nbsp;level.</div>

National competitions will first be coordinated by National Standards Bodies in collaboration with private sector stakeholders and relevant partners. The East African Community (EAC) has today officially announced the upcoming 2026 EAC Regional Quality Awards set to fete outstanding enterprises across the region that demonstrate excellence in quality management, standards compliance, innovation and continuous improvement.

EAC Announces 2026 Regional Quality Awards to Honour East Africa’s Top Enterprises

<p>This year&rsquo;s edition coincided with the 25th EAC Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Trade Fair and Exhibition, an annual event that rotates among EAC Partner States. The trade fair serves as a vibrant platform for innovation, networking, and cross-border trade, reinforcing the region&rsquo;s commitment to economic integration.</p>
<p>The 2025 competition was officially launched earlier this year by the East African Standards Committee (EASC) during its 27th meeting in Arusha, Tanzania. Following the launch, national competitions were held across the seven EAC Partner States, with winners advancing as nominees for the regional awards.</p>
<p>The EAC Regional Quality Awards are a flagship initiative designed to recognize organizations that exemplify excellence, innovation, and best practices in quality and standards across diverse sectors. The Awards aim to promote competitiveness, enhance productivity, and foster a culture of quality throughout East Africa.</p>
<p>This year&rsquo;s ceremony brought together leading enterprises, SMEs, and public institutions from Partner States, highlighting their critical role in driving sustainable growth and regional integration.</p>
<p>The ceremony was also attended by Ms. Annette Ssemuwemba Mutaawe, Deputy Secretary General for Customs, Trade and Monetary Affairs at the East African Community; Ms. Dorothy Tembo, Deputy Executive Director of the International Trade Centre; and Mr. Lukorito Zacharia, Director of Standards Development and Trade at the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS).</p>
